Corrosion Management Practices Applied in Design and Installation of Submarine Pipelines in HPHT Gas Production

Abstract

 For the production of gas in very corrosive environments at high temperature and pressure, several challenges were presented for the control of the corrosion threats. Different corrosion management practices have been applied to mitigate corrosion to tolerable levels. In particular, the feasible alternatives and the practices that have been chosen for the design and installation of submarine pipelines for different recent projects are described, where the main parameters that affect internal corrosion of pipelines are: wet gas, CO2 levels up to 5%, H2S levels up to 100 ppm, temperatures reaching 1200C and pressures of more than 185 bar.
