The military specification for heavy phosphate coatings, MIL-DTL-16232, mandates the use of a hexavalent chromium final rinse for corrosion resistance. Numerous non-chromium rinses have been evaluated to date and none have provided comparable corrosion resistance. The paper will discuss the testing of additional non-chromium substitutes and their corresponding performance.
