During decarburization, oxide films are formed along grain boundaries of a low alloy steel. The depth of grain boundary oxide films from the outside surface increases with increasing decarburization time at 900°C. It was confirmed that the grain boundary oxide films are a prerequisite factor for intergranular stress corrosion cracking of the low alloy steel in a primary water environment.Key words: decarburization; primary water stress corrosion cracking; low alloy steel
