Current issues and experimental approaches in studying stress corrosion cracking in steels that are used in oil and gas pipelines will be reviewed, including the effects of metallurgical, mechanical, and environmental parameters, as well as the importance of time.  The challenges of obtaining field-relevant laboratory data in short-term tests will be discussed.
