Development of the Corrosion and Coatings Report and Data Depot for Naval Use
Brad Shaw, P.E., Vision Point Systems

Corrosion accounts for one of the largest maintenance issues in terms of cost and time for the US Military.  Part of the purpose for the US Navy laboratory system is to investigate new materials and maintenance procedures to reduce cost and maintain readiness for the US Marine Corps and US Navy.  In an effort to facilitate the communication of historical research in the area of corrosion and coatings. the Office of Naval Research initiated a program to develop a web enabled Corrosion and Coatings Report and Data Depot (CCRDD) populated with coatings and corrosion reports/data gathered by US Navy laboratories.  The purpose of CCRCC is to identify improved materials, provide data for bench marking scientific models, recognize the true qualifying performance metrics of materials, and model the relationship between materials and their corrosion performance.
