In 1995 a new thermosetting-resin system was introduced to handle concentrated sulfuric acid and organic solvents. Previous fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP) technology limited the use of composite piping systems to mild solvents and low concentrations of sulfuric acid (below 75%). Currently, plants specify lined steel or high alloy metallic piping systems for these applications.
This paper will show results of this thermosetting resin system after 10 years of continuous service in concentrated sulfuric acid applications.
