The pure copper specimens have been exposed at 4 atmospheric test sites in Vietnam including the urban and coastal areas. The corrosion rates were determined and the corrosion dynamic in the early stage were investigated. The obtained results showed that the corrosion rates of copper in the coastal areas are higher than that in the urban one, but the corrosion rates faster reduced in the first environment due to the corrosion product layers were formed earlier in comparison with the second. For that reasons the corrosion of copper in the early stage follows the power law in the coastal atmospheres whereas it obeys the linear one in the urban areas. The characteristics of corrosion products were investigated and are given in this paper.

Key words: corrosion rate, corrosion dynamic, coastal area, urban area, corrosion product layer, linear law, power law.
