The Carderock Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center in conjunction with Nevada Automotive Test Center, Aberdeen Test Center and Corrpro Companies, conducted a Research and Development program funded by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Total Ownership Cost Reduction Future Naval Capability (TOCR-FNC) for the United States Marine Corps (USMC). This program was aimed at reducing corrosion of combat and tactical equipment and associated maintenance burdens through the development of USMC acquisition specifications related to corrosion control. Utilizing fleet corrosion data from the Total Ownership Cost Reduction (TOCR) program, specific corrosion rates and deterioration metrics were developed into a Corrosion/Durability Road Test. This presentation discusses the development of the Road Test and how it is being implemented into the USMC.
