Direct current voltage gradient (DCVG) survey is a useful tool that is routinely used to locate coating indications, electrical shorts/bonds to foreign structures and interfering structures.  The survey technique is credited to an Australian in the 1990's.  However, an electric company based in Chicago has been using a similar technology since the mid-seventies.  The survey is simple to perform and the results are very accurate and informative.  The calculations are cumbersome but straightforward.

The purpose of this presentation is to share some of the history of the DCVG survey technique along with providing a layman’s explanation of how it works and what type of results to anticipate.
