Current 105mm cartridge casings are currently protected using chrome VI organic coating.  ARL was tasked to compare the current system with four chrome-free metallic coating alternatives for resistance to accelerated corrosion.  Three replicates of each candidate were exposed to salt fog per ASTM B 117 for 336 hours.  Another set of five replicates of each candidate were exposed to accelerated cyclic corrosion per GM 9540.  Results of the accelerated corrosion exposures are presented here.
