In this paper, ECTFE, a melt processable fluorinated resin, is described for applications in the field of anticorrosion coatings. The unique and enhanced performance properties of this polymer will be presented in comparison with other materials presently available. ECTFE’s exceptional chemical resistance over a very wide range of temperatures combined with the outstanding permeation resistance and excellent surface properties of this material will be outlined with particular focus on the real-world benefits in coating applications for corrosion protection. It will be highlighted that today ECTFE coatings are extensively used all over the world for corrosion protection in chemical processes, semiconductor fabrication, and energy production, as well as for many other applications in contact with highly corrosive and ultra-pure chemicals. Some examples of typical applications will be provided to show that for over 30 years ECTFE has achieved extraordinary results as a coating material for corrosion protection in harsh chemical environments and also for use in high purity systems.
