This laboratory study investigates the effect of under deposit corrosion by FeS on API X-65 steel in a substitute seawater environment with 25% H2S / 75% N2.  The tested deposit is a mixture of FeS and sand, ranging from 100% FeS to 100% sand.  The results demonstrate and quantify the significant effect of FeS deposits in accelerating under deposit corrosion of pipelines.
