TIMETAL® 54M (Ti-5Al-4V-0.6Mo-0.4Fe) is a newly developed alloy with similar mechanical properties as Ti 6Al-4V alloy but with better machinability. 54M was developed to improve upon the overall production costs of Ti 6Al-4V while providing similar properties. However, there is no data on Environmental Assisted Cracking (EAC) of 54M.  The halide ions are SCC agents for Ti 6Al-4V alloy in aqueous solutions; also Ti 6Al-4V has moderate sensitivity to hydrogen damage. In this study, 54M SCC behavior in various halide containing aqueous solutions and hydrogen embrittlement under different conditions and its influence on ductility will be presented and discussed with reference to well established Ti 6Al-4V alloy.
